The Surreal Life (of a three year old)

Oh the joys of being three!

I saw this trivia generator on the blog The Adventures of KJ and the Dreamy Giraffe (in which it was cleverly used as her 7 Interesting Facts trivia) and I thought it was hilarious... and perfectly fitting for Gracie. Anyone who has ever had a conversation with a three year old, knows perfectly just how surreal their little brains are. Like Salvador Dali and Barney having a picnic on acid.

Gracie is very verbal for her age. And she is very precocious... but about 80% of the time she makes no sense whatsoever. Sometimes I just look at her (bewildered expression on my face) and imagine that her brain is that of a short-circuiting robot going: SYSTEM MALFUNCTION! SYSTEM MALFUNCTION! RED ALERT! RED ALERT!

The other day, we went to the front office of our apartment complex to rent a movie and Gracie said to the complex manager as she got cozy in the leather chair, "Hey, I have something to tell you."
"And what would that be, Gracie?" he politely asked (he gets the biggest kick out of her).
No one expected her to shoot him a look as if he was completely crazy and emphatically announce, "I already told you!!!"
But she did.

Whaaaa....?

And of course, the conversation she had with me yesterday, about how I was once a little baby living in her tummy, ended up getting so weird I finally had to end it because my brain literally hurt from the exhaustion. Because there were, of course, about 108 similar conversations going on between us within the several hours prior. All absurd, all nonsensical, all completely surreal.

Kids are such a kick, aren't they?

I'm SO with you! Liv at 4 has just learned the joy of telling jokes. Not that she understands really all that much about puns or humor. So it usually goes like, "Why did the stop sign jump over the banana?" and I answer, "I don't know, why DID hte stop sign jump over the banana?" and Liv answers either with something as equally nonsensical as the original question or sometimes she looks at me with kind of a quizzical look and says, "I don't know..."

Add joke books to the list of things to get people's kids if you really want to be mean to the parents.

You so funny! Love this, "Like Salvador Dali and Barney having a picnic on acid."
What is it about three year olds. My daughter is so similar. The things that go on in their heads. I wonder if we only hear part of it. LOL

I think that Gracie and my three-year-old nephew ought to get together! He makes sense at first, but sometimes he gets going and I just lose him :)

kids are so funny, but yes, they can also do your head in! lol

speaking of kids, the revamped Tootsie and Grace store looks great! will you be making cards from the original prints, like you do with Elegant Snobbery? Think they would make great cards for kids :)

aren't kids great? when I was pregnant my cousin's daughter asked me if she could see the baby. I explained that she couldn't because he was inside my tummy, and she said I should cut a hole in my belly button and get him out!

Oh, so true, so true. And it's not really much different when they're teenagers. You just pray that they're not REALLY on acid! :)

I love the trivia generator so hard. I have to go play with it now.

Oh, wait! If you want to freak out your little one, tell her my favorite knock-knock joke: "Want to hear my favorite knock-knock joke? Okay, you start." My youngest (rather OCD) child actually had nightmares over that one.

How funny! I can totally relate to those strangely facinating conversations and stories! My three year old told my mother in law (aka nana) that mommy wasn't having anymore babies (something I constantly remind extended family members), but that she was gonna get a baby in her belly for nana to take care of. You should really record or write some of her stories down. They'll be so much fun to go back and read when she is older.
