Friday Flashback: Dear Santa

I wrote this letter to Santa when I was 4 - the age Gracie is now. I'm pretty darned positive my big brother Dan was helping me write it, as is apparent in the last item on my list... not to mention the year I wanted all of this stuff, I didn't know how to spell yet. Clearly my brother didn't either, but thanks for helping anyway, Danny!

In case you can't figure out what the heck I wanted for Christmas in the year 1985, here you go:

Dear Santa

I want
Rainbow Brite
Baby Brite
Purple Brite (I wanted Indigo, not Shy Violet)
and Glo Worms
and Sweet Secrets
and Transformers

I didn't get any of them, just in case you were wondering. I'm sure my brother got his Tranformers, but that was the year I got the mother load of Strawberry Shortcake toys, including the ginormous Strawberry Shortcake doll house which was practically bigger than me. I was very happy.

I didn't sit down with Gracie to write out a list for Santa this year, but I did hand her a toy catalog and a pen, with the instructions to circle what she wanted. I got the catalog back and apparently the only thing she wants is a hot pink Vespa. Santa has other ideas... like a Crayola kids digital camera which is already wrapped and ready to be put under our tree on Christmas Eve while the girls sleep. I'm pretty sure she'll be cool with that, since she's been begging for her own camera for the last year.

Got a flashback of your own to share? Join in the fun over at Tia's blog (www.christopherandtia.blogspot.com)!

xoxo,

oh my goodness, I'm pretty sure I had the exact same Christmas list when I was younger ... only I asked for Lala Orange (only because I thought her hat was cool)

oh and a Michael Jackson record!

Too cute. I remember when my youngest sister used to write letters to Santa. My other sister and I used to help her all of the time, but for the first few years, we just wrote them for her, but we only wrote down what she wanted (13 and 14 year difference. We knew there wasn't a Santa). And all the gifts we gave her came from Santa, but there was SANTA (our mom), little Santa (me) and tiny Santa (my other sister).

That's so cool that you still have that letter! I was only 2 in '85... but I remember wanting those toys when I got a little older. And my strawberry shortcake doll... my mom sold at a yard sale without me knowing! UGH! I'm still bitter about that! LOL

I am most amazed at the fact that you still HAVE a letter you wrote to Santa at four years old! :-)

Awesome! How cute!

I'm a champion reader when it comes to phonetically-spelled words, thanks to my kids, so I was able to read everything on your list except your brother's Transformer. ;-)

I have all my kids' letters to Santa. This year, my 8-yr-old son painstakingly spelled out the words on his list using letter stickers. It looks like a ransom note. LOL! My 10 yr old included a PS that said, "I really want the things that are underlined." Well, everything was underlined!

PS - I envy you your Strawberry Shortcake dolls and house. I had one - Apple Dumplin' (I think that was her name). I was a Cabbage Patch Kid girl. All.The.Way.

I totally laughed out loud about the fact that your brother helped you with the spelling...and that he conned you into adding a Transformer to your list. I can't say that I have the best memory in the universe, but I don't remember actually ever writing out a list. I do remember my mom handing me the Sears toy catalog and asking me to dog ear the pages of the stuff I wanted. The only things I ever remember asking for...and getting were a Miss Piggy paper doll and a diary with a lock on it...both of which I got. I don't remember which year, but I did have all of the Strawberry Shortcake dolls. How I wish that I held on to those :(

I got rainbow brite and her horse for Christmas around that same time period. Which would have made me about 5 years old or so.
