Hannah Tinkerbell Hopkins

Something to know about me and Will: we are ridiculously impulsive. Also, when we see a pile of rescue pups in the shelter's last ditch effort to find homes before termination, we tend to go, "Awwwww... we can't let them DIE!"

So we bought Gracie a dog for her birthday.

Haha, just kidding.

Sorta. We did technically buy a dog (if you can call a chihuahua a dog) and she does looks like a hyena, but a smaller-than-a-cat version. Gracie picked her out and named her Hannah. And then Annelie gave her the middle name Tinkerbell.

So, here she is: Hannah Tinkerbell Hopkins

And she's really, really tiny, which was a huge surprise. She was in a little cage and Gracie pointed and said, "Awww, I want that little doggie!" The shelter people pulled her out and put her in my arms and Will filled out the adoption papers and when that was done I put her down on the ground... and stared at her.

"Wow. That's a really small dog," I said. The shelter people only smiled their smug little smiles.

When I brought her home and set her down next to the kittens, I stared again. "Wow. She's smaller than the kittens." Will only raised his eyebrows as if to say, duh Marisa, its a freakin' chihuahua. What did you expect?

I'm sure my cat-loving friends are like, *gasp* "A chihuahua? WHY??!!"

And my dog-loving friends are like, "That's not a dog. What the heck is that?"

And my small-dog-loving friends are like, "Whoooo! Welcome to the world of being followed 24 hours a day by a shivering, little four-legged shadow! Have fun!"

But I do have to say Hannah is pretty cute.

Cute like a cuddly Gizmo.

But I'm also a little nervous that I'll accidentally get her wet and she'll turn into the scary gremlin.

Honestly, though, she doesn't seem like a dog. She's two years old and full grown, and sort of reminds me of a martian. Like, if she were to suddenly sprout antennae and command in a high-pitched squeak, "Take me to your leader," I probably would take her to my leader without question.

Does anyone else feel this way about chihuahuas? Please say I'm not the only one.

But Hannah likes me. I guess that is okay. And she doesn't bark, and that is definitely okay. Life with two kids, two cats, a German Shepard and a chihuahua should be interesting.

xoxo,

Melanie... um. Maybe next week? Haha, just kidding, but our house will be like a zoo one day, I'm sure.

well at least you have dogs on both ends of the spectrum.

When I was Gracie's age we had a husky crossed with a wolf and a miniature teacup poodle.

Prince; our big dog pulled us in our sleigh around the neighborhood. He could stand underneath our kitchen table and lift it up off the floor. He would routinely walk between my sister and I and any adult or dog in the neighborhood and he would walk my 2 year old sister down to the corner where our grandparents lived so that they could each get a cookie. He howled at the moon when it was full.

Patches, was so small that he could fit inside my mom's hand. He would stand in between Princes feet and bark at all the bigger dogs. He also followed my sister to grandma's for a cookie and when Prince howled at the moon so did Patches.

You're going to love having Hanna Tinkerbell as part of the family

congrats on the new addition! I love her name *totally fits* and I like the reference to gremlin because I feel the same way about my mom's chi-poo! LOL (in case you were wondering that is a chihuahua/poodle mix and it is hideous! way more like an alien than poor little hyena half-breed there)

Awww, I wouldn't be able to resist such a sweetie. If I were to ever get a dog, it would be a small one just like Hannah. I'm not a big fan of having to go on long walks in nasty weather, lol! a small dog is much easier to walk, and exercise.
Enjoy all your babies :-)

Awww.... I am a small dog person! They are the best. Except it's like having a child. Seriously. Chloe usually has to be carried home when we go for a walk. Congrats on your new addition!!

She is sooo cute!!! And I am sure she will be forever grateful to you for saving her life :)
I have a chihuahua and she is THE BEST. She's like a baby and is so loyal. Mine doesn't bark either and half the time you don't even know she's there! <3 Impulse Purchases!

I'm with Holly ... you are nuts! Pretty soon you can charge admission to your house!

She is a cutie though, and her coat is beautiful!

Congrats on your new addition. I know exactly how it feels to be unable to say "no" to your kids on things like these. That's why we just spent a fortune getting rid of all of the icky carpet in the downstairs part of our house. The cats shredded it. They are a lot of work, but worth it in the end. Your kids are gonna love your new dog as much as they love the other animals you have.

She's cute! We almost got a chihuahua when we were looking for a dog, but opted to pay twice as much for a Yorkie. She's kind of like a cat sometimes too!

CONGRATULATIONS on the new addition to your family!

Shouldn't you have a baby shower or something?

Just make sure that when Hannah Tinkerbell Hopkins grows up - she doesn't get preggers and give you a bunch of kittens..? puppies....? er hamsters....? well, just take precautions anyways!
