Friday Flashback: Danny's Little (Ugly) Brother

I haven't blogged in days. Not because I don't have anything to say, but because I'm too lazy to clean my studio and find my camera cord to upload photos. Yep.

But it's Friday, which means one thing: Time to pull out my scanner and embarrass myself.

The other day, I was chatting with my pal Alyssa about haircuts and I mentioned that I had the WORST hair cut in 2nd grade, as shown in my school photo from that year which I DESTROYED all evidence of, because seriously, just looking at it burned my eyes.

And then I went to my grandma's house and lo and behold, not only is there evidence of that haircut, but tons of it. And that school picture that I destroyed....

Well, I should have known I'd find it at my grandma's house. And not just one copy, but about 8 of them.

When I was in second grade, my mom got so annoyed with my hair-sucking habit that she took me to The Hair Connection (how is it possible that I remember the name of my hair salon from my elementary school days, but I don't remember even a fraction of all the cool stuff I learned in college?) and they chopped it all off. And that was when I found myself with a new nickname on the playground: Danny's Little Brother.

Aren't kids just so CLEVER and HILARIOUS??

Well, luckily by third grade my hair was normal again. (but I probably still had slightly intense and creepy smiles and lame turtle necks). And luckily my awful nickname went away (although it was replaced with Marisa Medusa which I wasn't much of a fan of. And actually, it was my brother who started that nickname. Thanks, Dan).

Hurray for Flashback Friday. And hurray for photographic evidence of sucky hair cuts. Have a flashback of your own to share? Head over to Tia's blog and join in the fun!

Enjoy your weekend, folks!

xoxo,

Daaaaang.
Wow.
That is some haircut!!!
Someday, I'll start doing Flashback Friday, and I'll have how many years of awkwardness and funny stuff to catch up on....

I feel your pain, I really do. MY mom has always hated my hair long and would hack my hair short (shorter than yours) when it got long and everyone would ask me if I was a boy or girl.

My sister and brother used to call me Alyssa Pizza. Stupid, yes, but it would annoy me to no end. I never really had a mean school nickname...they just went straight to just BEING mean to me. wah.

I think I've either exhaused all of my really embarassing old photos...or I just haven't had the chance to hijack any from my mom lately.

P.S., I still think you looked cute :)

Marisa, I had that SAME haircut in first grade! My mom made me cut my hair short when I was five because I never let her brush it. I had short hair til HIGH SCHOOL! I was mistaken for a boy several times in my childhood by well meaning adults. And it didn't help that my grandparents owned a boys/mens clothing store either...

I sadly must admit that I too had that same exact haircut, only with gigantic feathered poofball bangs (hangs head in shame)

Unlike you, however, there is no way in hell that any photographic evidence of said haircut will ever appear online.

You're a brave brave woman Marisa!

OMG...
compared to my old haircuts, your 3rd grade self looks stunning. how sad is that?
I'll have to dig one up...

Sorry Marisa! Sometimes we're just at the mercy of the hair stylists.

I think that was the year I made a trip to Gap Kids and bought you a whole new wardrobe - maybe after we got your school picture....

Bahahahah!

Whatever, I think your hair looks awesome like that.

Lol! I think we all have at least one or two of those nasty school photos kicking around somewhere.
And how is it that the grandmas always seem to have multiple copies? ;-)

M--Even that haircut really doesn't hide your angelic face!! You should see the perm I had in junior high. Oh my. Permed bangs. Not pretty. At least you can say your mom made you. No such luck for me!

Ummmm.. well I had a Dorothy Hammil haircut that grew out when my mom got the great idea to take me to the local beauty college for a perm ---- one of those stinky kinds! I ended up looking like I had a bird's nest on top of my head!

LOL! But did your mother ever cut your hair boy-short and then, to make matters worse, PERM it?! Plus, I wore HUGE glasses.

Trust me, you were adorable compared to what I looked like. ;-)

PS - I lived with my grandparents when I was 19-20 years old. Due to the incessant Kansas wind, I chopped off all my hair. It was SHORT. My grandparents would actually introduce me to people as their grandson. They thought it was terrrribly funny.

Okay, I have come to the conclusion that ALL of you need to blog about your old school pictures!

I WANNA SEE!!!!

I think that is called the Dorothy Hamil. I had one.

Oh how terrible!! I am so glad hairstyles are more flexible these days. I've had to cut my kids hair quite short due to self-inflicted hair cuts. We've threatened to shave my oldest's hair if she ever cuts it again. So far we haven't had to follow through. I have a feeling we'd never hear the end of that one. :)

I had that same exact haircut in 2nd grade and 6th grade! I hide those pictures!
