Illustration Friday - Surrender

Ooookay, I haven't done Illustration Friday in over a year. Way to be awesome, Marisa! But the topic this week is Surrender, and as I've been thinking of the PB (picture book) I'm working on for the dummy book challenge, I knew I could come up with a little something for Illustration Friday.

So here is a little character sketch (scribbled on the back of a page of the YA manuscript I'm currently revising - I'm so very resourceful - or else too lazy to dig out my sketchbook) of poor sweet Consuelo, who knows that she must surrender to her father's wishes and marry the rich, though grotesque, Don Roberto.

Poor girl.

I'm just going to go ahead and say that drawing a grotesque toad is very hard when you're the kind of person who thinks toads are just adorable. But it is only a character sketch after all. Practice, practice, practice!

Happy Wednesday, folks! We're currently snowed in, so there is much cake eating and hot chocolate drinking while we wait for spring!

xoxo,

Your froggies are too cute to be ugly or grotesque!

I mustn't care too much for frogs since my first thought at the end of your post was "yummy! I want to be snowed in so I can eat cake and drink hot chocolate!!"

But your pic is great as well :) that toad does look a tad icky!

I love that your sketch is on the back of a page of SLEEP. Sketching sounds so fun right now. As does having cake and hot chocolate with you.

WOO HOO for your froggies! I think you've made a great start. I bet once you color fill them, you can make him all mottled and icky looking :) I can already tell your heroine is quite the beauty!

It's easy to be a fair-weathered IF artist. But I'm glad you're back! Great job! See you next week?
