Setting: 6-year-old Gracie in the car with Will, coming home from school.
GRACIE: My friend said a swear word today.
WILL [brows high]: Really? What swear word did she say?
GRACIE: The S word. [pauses seriously] The S-H word.
WILL: Oh, wow. Have you ever heard me say that word?
GRACIE [Scandalized and defensive]: “No, Dad! You would never tell anyone to shut up!”

Oh, these kids. So innocent. So entertaining.
Hope you're having a great week so far, folks!

Lol I remember on the playground once, a child came to report another child swearing and saying the " F word"... As a teacher, you always know to ask what the word actually was...in this case it turned out to be "far out" lol
Bwa-ha-ha! That's classic! And these moments will be family treasures for years.
Wait ten years and tell me if the S-H word isn't still "shut up" in your family.
well, to be fair, shut-up isn't very nice...but I'm afraid it won't be long before another S-H takes its place.
Too funny! Kids say the cutest things!
:-D
The S-H word is actually a HUGE pet peeve of mine. I have to hold my tongue not to curse like a sailor, but for some reason I find "shut up" very offensive. *shakes head*
Cathy - hahaha, that is so cute!
Dianne and Marcy - oh man,it definitely won't be long before it's a different S-H word - they grow too quickly!
Jordan - they are constant entertainment :)
Melissa - yes, it is one of mine, too. My kids aren't allowed to say it in the house - just too rude. But so funny to me that Gracie would consider it a swear word - hope that means she hasn't heard me use the other S-H word!!
That is so funny!
My 1st grader told us that his friend said the "F" word. I was shocked! My husband said, "Are you sure? Spell it." So he spells, "friggin". Phew!
My kids also tell others that I say the C-word all the time.
Crap. (NOT the other one, but they don't elaborate which one!)
