Gone, Baby Gone

So, some of you may have noticed that I have been a little MIA in the internet world for the last two weeks. No Etsy, no emails, blogging, or forum chatting... why? you might be asking yourself, right about now.

Am I just too busy?
Not really.

Am I hard at work creating glorious illustrations... not at all!

A virus wiped out my hard drive and after spending two weeks trying desperately to save it, I had to install a new operating system (with the help of my computer genius uncle-- I could never figure out how to do anything like that on my own!!) and lost EVERYTHING on my entire computer.

The cherry on top of the sundae is.... I hadn't been saving any of my files (yes, including the pictures of my darling children) and they are gone, baby gone.

Sigh. How stupid. And senseless! I had an internet back up system included with my virus protection and I never used it once!!!

I am just thankful that I started this blog, because all of the pictures of my girls that I have included here would have been lost! And I am also thankful that I have uploaded some of my favorite pictures of Gracie and Annelie and our family to Shutterfly.com or else I would have lost everything going back to the birth of Gracie!!

Moral of the story... back up your files everyone!! I will never be so stupid again!!

A lady that works at the shelter where I volunteer just had the same thing happen to her and she warned me to do the same. I just put all my pics on disk yesterday, about 2 years worth of work and living! I would have cried if that had happened to me. I am very sorry to hear that.
On a side note-I'm here to present you with the oh so prestigious "You Make My Day" blog award because I love your work and your blog. I'm also tagging you if you have the time for this foolishness after what you have been through. You can check out my blog to see what this is about. Thanks and I hope you have a better weekend!

Ah, that's horrible! :( The same thing happened to me before, and I STILL I forget to make backups! You reminded me that I really should though =/

my worst nightmare!!! so sorry to hear that - the worst part is the photos being lost :(

i'm very bad like that - i go months and months without making a back-up copy of photos! damn digital cameras - this is the curse of the modern age!

someone said to me the other day that everytime she loads photos onto her computer she immediately copies them to CD... I shoudl really do the same!

But as you said thank goodness for blogging and other corners of the net which house some of our precious pictures!

Sorry to hear that that happened to you! I LOVE my photos and would absolutely be crushed if that had happened.
I'm glad that you could at least recover some of your things!
Keep your chin up.

I am kind of using my blog as a family photo album too. Hopefully all of our photos are safe and backed up there! Sorry you lost the rest, that is tragic.
