Say Hello to my Little Friend

My mom came to visit us last weekend and brought with her my new best friend: a lovely little scanner.

Up until last week when I needed to add something new to my shop, I'd have to take a million photos, complain about the poor lighting in my apartment complex (shade is wonderful when you live in Texas... however it is not wonderful if you need to take pictures and you want them to look good), and then have to take a million more because the first million didn't turn out nice enough. I'm not a perfectionist. Not at all. My pictures were seriously that bad.

Taking a photograph of a flat piece of paper with a picture on it is a pain in the butt. Whenever I would need to take a picture of one of my prints for my shop, I would want to tear out my hair. I have a lot of prints in my shop, so it is a wonder that I'm not bald yet. I guess I have more self-restraint than I give myself credit for.

I have spent the last few days scanning all of my prints, and let me tell you, the difference is amazing! I get a lot of feedback from customers who buy my prints saying that they look so much better in person... Well the reason would be because my shop photos could never do my prints justice! Now, however, my shop is nearly updated with the new photos, and let me say, it is a huge difference. I'm very excited about the new photos, which finally look just like the prints!

Here are some before and after shots so you can see what I mean.

Quite a difference, isn't it? I'm excited because I feel like I'm breathing new life into my shop with these brighter and better pictures.

Although, I am going to miss the messages about my prints being even better in person. I always look forward to messages like those!

Enjoy!
xoxo,

Not to mention all the time you'll save and how much more hair you'll have! ;-) The before/after shots definitely are amazing! I wish I made products you could just scan....*sigh*

That's awesome! Your pictures were great before, but wow love the before and afters. BTW, you had me at 'say hello to my little friend', my husband walks around saying that all the time! I love my scanner, I wish I could scan my ornaments.

Wow! They really do look great! It will save you a ton of time!

Thanks for the comment on my new look, I stayed up the other night until 3 am working on it, but it was worth it. I was tired of the polka dots. It feels good to know that I created it.

Looks great, but I bet the prints will still look better in person. Digital on uncalibrated monitors will never be the same.
I love your work.

I adore your artwork! How did you make your Etsy shop a success?

I opened mine (www.IndigoRiverJewelry.etsy.com) yesterday. I have little experience in the world of business (I'm 14, haha) and I'm asking around to find out what marketing methods work best. What would you recommend?

Huge difference. However, I couldn't tell that you were taking them with a camera before - you were doing a great job.
