Sick-o

I have come to the conclusion that all stay-at-home parents who have survived a cold, flu, or nasty bout of tonsillitis, deserve the highest medal, the most exalted honor that could ever be bestowed upon a person.

I've been battling a revolting throat infection the last few days, and it has not been one speck of fun. Before kids, I used to enjoy getting sick. My mom used to make pots and pots of homemade chicken soup and, besides gargling saltwater (ugh), my sick days consisted of lounging in bed and watching My Blue Heaven - my sick-day movie of choice - until I felt strong enough to go back to school. I wasn't in much of a rush, to be sure.

Now there is nothing enjoyable about being sick. Not only do I look like a corpse, as my olive skin turns a sickening shade of puce when the golden tan is replaced by the deathly pallor of tonsillitis, but instead of getting to curl up and die, I get to change endless diapers, fetch non-stop bottles of juice, and watch the ever-so-talented Gracie balance plastic plates on her head while shouting, "Lookit me, lookit me!" - all through a fever induced haze.

Cold and flu season is just around the bend, and other moms out there - I'm telling you now that if you survive it GOOD FOR YOU! You might not get a medal to prove that you survived the worst kind of torture, but just know that you have my utmost respect and understanding if you do happen to pull through.

And, of course, be sure to print out the official certificate:

You can have this fabulous certificate framed and proudly posted on your wall for all to see. Go ahead. You deserve it.

Okay, now I'm going back to bed, as I'm still in the "I just want to die" stage of my illness. Hopefully these kids will let me take a 5 minute nap before the next round of demands begin.

xoxo,

Yes, being sick is only fun when life is all about you! My sick day tv show of choice is Little House on the Prairie. It is like tv chicken soup.

Are you kidding? It's the best kind of torture (because really, torture is a freakin' hoot!) as it truly shows what you're made of. Forget the pains of childbirth, if you can live through chasing after two kids whilst longing for your death bed, you truly are a survivor!
Oh and my pre baby tv show for the sickies was Matlock. :o) It was never on when I was home, otherwise.

Awwwww, I hope you feel better! Wait, you're a mom... how did you even get sick??? Moms aren't supposed to get sick! I'd make you a vat of soup, but somehow I don't think it would travel well between here and there! HUGS!

I hear ya on this! Good thing I'm a Gemini - so I pretend I'm my own mom when I get sick and make cream of chicken soup with rice, warm myself in a hot tub (and actually lock the bathroom door!) -- once, on the phone with the dr's office I explained, "you don't understand, I'm a mother - I can't be sick - people could die!"...that was when I had an ER worthy gut problem and my 6 month old climbed ALL THE WAY DOWN THE STAIRS by herself while I was STUCK on the potty!

Oh,Marisa! I am so with you on this one! When moms get sick, it's like the captain of the ship has gone down and no one knows what to do. Hope you feel better soon!

Didn't you know? Mom's aren't allowed to get sick. :)

It's amazing what one can accomplish when there are little ones relying on us.

I hope you feel better soon!

I hate to be the one that gives you this news - but when the kiddos go off to school, as I'm finding out first hand this year, its twice as bad since now they pick up extra germs and bring em home.

Not enough airborne and lysol in the world can fix that!

Feel better!

*Oooodles of virtual chicken noodle soup, hot tea, and long hot showers to you!*

Oh noooooooo. Taking care of the little ones while your sick IS the absolute worst. And I agree with you, a medal of honor is certainly deserved. I hope your throat is slowly returning to its non sore self, and you're able to see through the haze with ease by now. <3

Yes, I have been there and totally understand! We're heading into Summer here thank goodness! But Winter was the worst! I share a class with a teacher who has a little girl, so between her daughter and my 2 boys at childcare plus the kids in our own class...well, let's just say there were plenty of germs to go around!
