Rest In Pieces

Things have been looking pretty grim in the Hopkins household lately... well, for my new illustrations at least, which have all been buried at the bottom of the garbage can after being ripped to shreds and crumpled.

I've been having an off week. Everything, EVERYTHING I try to illustrate just doesn't go the way it should and I have been tearing my hair out.

What started out as an innocent enough sketch, has now turned into The Picture Which Shall Not Be Illustrated, and has met the Wrath of Marisa numerous times. I'm not sure who's the victor here... I'm not thinking it is me... and it certainly isn't the many pages of paper at the bottom of the bin.

But I'm extraordinarily stubborn and I wont let that stinking illustration defeat me. So, one day I'll be able to show you The Picture Which Shall Not Be Illustrated. And hopefully by then, it will actually be illustrated, and not just a series of sketches and crumpled bits of garbage.

*sigh* In the meantime, I'll just be tearing my hair out and stomping my feet in frustration.

I hope you are all having a more productive time than me!

xoxo,

OMG!! I think they were fabulous!! What didn't you like about them? At first I thought your daughter got ahold of them and ripped them up.

They looked good to me but I know how that goes. When you have an idea in mind and it just doesn't pan out to your specifications nothing anyone can say will make it better. It surely can be frustrating! Another day, all will work out better!

I saw SIX of your lovely pieces this weekend, all framed alike and grouped together as one art object. (In Janna's house.) Absolutely fabulous! Is it possible you're being a little too...hard on yourself?

*hugs*

They look so great Marisa! But I totally understand your frustrations!! Good Luck.. Take a deep breath and come back to it later!

I'm having an off week with painting too. I decided to just take a break and come back to it when the mood strikes! Sometimes you just can't force it.

Aww sweetie, you should try working on something different for a while.

Sometimes that's the best medicine. Truly just put it away, and forget about it... someday you'll be ready to pull it out again, and don't force yourself to rush that day. Just do it when it feels right.

Ah...have been there. Don't know about you but destroying it always makes me feel at least a little better. Maybe take the girls to Chuck E Cheese's and take your frustration out on Whack A Mole? Sometimes just walking away is the bes thing you can do.

If I had a fire place - I would throw my bad paintings in it just to watch them burn....(insert wicked laugh) but ripping them is cathartic too.

gahh! I hate that feeling, when a project just won't co-operate and come together the way it should. Good luck working through it!

Well, judging from the shreds, I thought that they were pretty fabulous myself, but then again, my idea of a sketch is a stick person. :)
